Last weekend Ollie and I finally went to get our Christmas tree. Every year we get our tree towards the end of November. Quite early, I know, but we head home to Devon around the 20th December and so we end up having to take it down a few days before we leave. It feels such a shame to only have it up for a few weeks, hence getting it up a little early.
As always we opted for a real tree, firstly because nothing beat the real thing and secondly because we have absolutely no where to store an artificial one in our flat.
We had quite the road trip this year and headed out of London to the East Sussex countryside to a place called Wilderness Woods. True to its name, it was nestled right in a forest and it really was a magical place to pick up a Christmas tree. I found it online while researching where you can cut your own tree, unfortunately this year they sold out of the cut your own in the first day but they had a vast selection of freshly cut ones to choose from.
Big or small, Norway Spruce or Nordmann Fir, the variety was vast and as tradition had it, we critiqued them all in search of ours.
In the past few weeks the temperate has really plummeted (we even had snow this week!) and I opted for cashmere layers to keep me warm, including this marl grey jumper and stripped colour blocked scarf, both extremely soft and cosy. I was especially thankful of these while it took us nearly an hour sifting through all the pines.
I kept it classic with an everyday white shirt which can be worn all year round and a trusty parka style jacket which has a removable faux fur hood trim and padded lining to keep out that cold wind.
As for my bottom items, It is always challenging to find a good pair of slim fitting jeans which are both flattering and comfortable, the ink blue pair I am wearing are the exception, both stretchy and complimentary on the figure, which means you aren’t dying to get them off once home! On my feet I’m wearing these white soft leather trainers which I practically live in day to day.
We soaked up the festive atmosphere and charming location before choosing our tree and fuelling up by the outside barbecue with a hot dog, before heading home to put our tree in place and slipping into loungewear. This turtle neck jumper is what dreams are made of and is the softest item I own! The leggings are actually thermals and I use them for both around the house and underneath trousers on extremely cold day, making them exceedingly versatile.
We settled down for the evening with a mug of hot chocolate and Christmas tunes on, feeling snug about our sweet quirky, wonky topped tree before dressing it in fairy lights. There something so magical about picking out your tree and decorating it with loved ones.
